Francois’ Story

Dr Francois Bothma  recently took over from Dr Alison Steele as principal dentist at Northwest Dental. He has excelled in developing all aspects of general dentistry in the highly specialised field of dentistry.

Francois graduated as dentist from the University of Stellenbosch South Africa in 1988 and started his dental career in private practice in the beautiful city of Cape Town. Technical proficiency came easily to Dr Bothma, and it was early in his career that he discovered a talent that cannot be taught—a highly developed aesthetic sensibility.  In 2005 he completed a two-year post graduate clinical concentration program in implant dentistry at the University of the Western Cape.  Francois later furthered his studies in Cosmetic Dentistry, Orthodontics, Facial Rejuvenation and General Oral Surgery.

In South Africa he also managed a referral clinic for patients suffering from headaches and TMD (jaw) problems. In 2007 Francois relocated to the United Kingdom, utilising the opportunities presented to further studies in the field of cosmetic dentistry. During 2010 his journey took him to Australia and he has now finally settled in Burnie Tasmania.

“Dr Bothma’s work continues to evolve the field of cosmetic and restorative dentistry, advancing knowledge and challenging conventional expectations for the most natural smile possible.”

Francois has always been very interested in the variety of General Dentistry and enjoys seeing patients from the very young to the more senior citizens. In pursuit of excellence, Francois is constantly expanding his knowledge base and keeping up to date attending numerous professional development training days both in Australia and abroad. He aims to provide quality dentistry in a friendly and comfortable environment and views communication with patients a high priority.

As a dentist, Francois will not only improve your smile, but also look after your dental health in a friendly caring manner.

Outside of dentistry, Francois is well known as spiritual teacher. Hobbies include Vedic astrology, classical music, cycling, bush-walking and spending time with his Pekinese dogs and two cats.

I was always a little embarrassed about my smile, and would rather people thought I was rude or miserable than show them the real reason. Not now, though. Now I couldn’t be happier and can’t stop smiling!
